Polished Concrete at Boston Scientific in Natick, Massachusetts

Boston Scientific Concrete Polishing Before PictureBoston Scientific Polished Concrete   Boston Scientific needed a super durable solution for their existing old concrete floors. They in the past had used coatings, with success, but they were looking for something that presented a longer system life cycle and could not be scratched away like tradition epoxy and urethane coatings. The solution, Polished Concrete Flooring. Concrete Polishing cannot be scratched away when pushing pallets across it or when a fork truck drivers dig their forks into the concrete. Why? Because a polished concrete floor has no film build to be scratched away. It is just concrete that has been densified and polished up to a high sheen much like marble. In the pictures to the left you can see the begining floor, the grinding process, and the final results, which is a great looking floor that will “WOW” the customers and the staff. Call us to find out more about this process!!!!!

When polishing concrete there are many sheen levels available depending on what your budget is and the look you want. We can cut floor and just dust proof them. We can provide sheen’s of  200 (satin), 400 (semi gloss), 800 (gloss), or 1500 ( High Gloss)The Concrete Polishing Process At Boston Scientific

Where deciding what type of floor a client wants to use to restore their old concrete floors, it is important to analyse what the fllor use will be and what environment it will existing in. Argotech of Greenfield, Massachusetts needed to upgrade their old concrete floors. They are in a business where they have alot of forktruck traffic and they push pallets all over their floors. They also have no real chemical exposure to their floor or oils. What this means is: they are abusive to their floors with traffic, Skids with nails sticking out willl ruin most Epoxy Coating type flooring systems. Argotech needed some type of floor to take the abuse. The solution was to polish the concrete. When a floor is polished correctly, it leaves a very hard surface that can take dragging abuse without showing the wear like coating do.  Since Argotech did not have alot of exposureto oils or things that would stain the concrete, concrete polishing was a great solution. We also added a stain in thier lab space to dress up the floor look . We put up a before photo and two other photos showing the regular polish and the stained floor with the Polished concrete. You can see the results look great.

Shipyard Brewery, Portland, Maine

Shipyard Brewery urethane mortar floor Application

Shipyard Brewery based in Portland, Maine is in a continual process of improving plant appearance. They have a large building blue print so it was important to choose a correct system that fit their budget. Breweries are an aggressive environment, so using standard epoxy systems is a no no. Epoxy cannot handle the chemicals they use, thermal shock, and point load abuse.  Urethane mortar systems are the right system to use here. They key is to prepare the floor correctly, make the correct termination saw cuts, and apply the system correctly. Here is what we did:

  1. Shot Blast the floor to create the proper anchor pattern for the mortar adhesion
  2. Patch floor with urethane mortar grout.
  3. Saw cut all floor termination points, drains, door ways
  4. trowel in ship mans cove base using urethane mortar grout
  5. Apply Urethane mortar flowable, seed floor with silica to rejection
  6. Sweep floor, sand, and vacuum up excess silica
  7. Apply urethane seal coat.

This floor meets the clients needs and budget.

We can prepare a concrete surface in many ways, here are some methods of floor preparation we do:

Shot Blasting, concrete grinding, concrete polishing, acid etching, scabbling, scarification, edge grinding, mastic removal, floor sanding

Planet Fitness, Chicopee, Massachusetts

Decorative flooring solutions for concrete done with Epoxy in Massachusetts

Planet Fitness of Chicopee, Massachusetts had a need for a new floor to be installed in their locker room areas. The reason was because the existing vinyl floor that was installed when the fitness center came in was bubbling and peeling in areas. They did want the same old look of tile, they wanted something to dress the floor up, we suggested a decorative vinyl chip floor with the color black, grey, and some silver metallic flakes. We did some testing and found the moisture levels to be high 8 to 11 on a calcium chloride test, so we needed to treat the floor first before coming in an installing a system. It is very important to do all testing before a floor and not after the fact, we are the experts. Here is how the job went down:

Scope of Work:

  • Scrape and remove existing vinyl
  • Remove glue with Diamond Grinders
  • Shot blast floor to SSpc#3
  • Edge grind the perimeter
  • Install vapor mitigation system epoxy coating at 20 mils dft
  • Sand floor to remove gloss
  • Apply 100% solids epoxy coating at 16 mils dft to the base color-black
  • Throw vinyl chips into the floor to rejection (so you only see chips)
  • Sweep and Apply 100% solids epoxy coating at 16 mils dft to the base color-black
  • Throw vinyl chips into the floor to rejection (so you only see chips)
  • Sweep and scrape floor vacuum it up 3 times
  • Apply UV resistant Epoxy coating at 20 mils dft
  • Apply Polyaspartic urethane at 6 mils dft, throw 60 mesh oxide into coating in light pattern

Look above to see the end result. Planet Fitness has a durable system that will not fail again from moisture and a definite upgrade in appearance for their customers.
